Domain Registration – .com VS .net
Registering a domain name for your business should be a easy and straightforward task. However, many of the best domain names are already taken, making it much harder to pick a domain name that will fit well with your company and branding. This happened recently with a client of ours, who was opening a new location and they wanted a new domain name. The name they wanted was not available, so we had to search for alternatives. What we had to choose from was either: domainname.net or domain-name.com. The question is, which one is better… Think about when you are telling people your domain name out loud, do you want to say:
“you can check us out online at www.domain dash name dot com.”
Or do you want to say:
“you can check us out online at www.domain name dot net.”
Generally we say NO to dashes in a domain name, but sometimes it just makes sense because of what you have to work with. And other times it is better to use a .net. Either way, when you are registering a new domain name, think about how the domain name will sound out loud when you are telling people to visit your website. If the domain name does not flow nicely off the tongue, look up another one and register wisely.
