Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?
Smartphone penetration within the United States is over 50% which means roughly 114 million Americans are toting iPhones, Androids and Blackberrys. What this means is that the vast majority of your customers (18-54) now use a smartphone, and what they see when they load your home page is now more important than ever.
In 2012 we saw more than one client who’s newly launched mobile website rocketed past even their home page, as the most popular page on their website.
Now you may be asking yourself: My website comes up fine on my phone, why do I need a “mobile” version?
We’re all used to loading a website and seeing a zoomed out, almost birds-eye view of the website. Pinch to zoom, pinch again, and then we use our thumbs to scroll over the page like we’re using a magnifying glass. While this works adequetly there are problems with this approach. A mobile website addresses this, here’s how.
The content is focused solely for mobile users. Directions, store hours, telephone information take priority for a mobile user over background information and article archives.
The interface is optimized for touch. Big buttons that are easy to press, and “app like” features make mobile users feel at home.
Depending on how your website was built, there are different options for making a mobile website. Contact us today at COLEwebdev so we can create a plan for your mobile website in 2013.
