How to Setup a Facebook Fan Page

I have been getting asked a lot, “How do I setup a Facebook Fan page for my Business?’ and I am here to answer that question.

Facebook has become a very popular social marketing tool for business and here at COLEwebdev we know how important it is to get your name out there while marketing your business online.  Facebook is a very popular online marketing tool, and if used properly, you can generate valid business leads and connect with your customers in a unobtrusive way.  Just to give an quick stat report about Facebook:  There are more than 500 million active users, the average user has 130 friends and people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.  By looking at these numbers, we know that Facebook is no small company, and it is wise for any business to jump on board and get yourself a fan page.  And don’t forget to add a link to you fan page on your website for even more customer interaction.

Steps to setting up a Business Fan page

First, start by going to this link.  Here you will fill out the section for “Official Page”.  You will want to choose “Local Business” and then enter in your page name.

Your page name should be your business name, if it is available.

Check the box that says” I am the official representative….”.  Then click “Create Official Page”

Second Step, enter in your email address, password and date of birth.  Then click the “Sign up Now” button.

Once you have submitted the form, you will be emailed with a link to complete your sign up.

Third Step, click on the link in the email you get from Facebook.  You will be redirected to your new business Facebook Fan page.

See the screen shot below, this is what the page will look like:

From here you will need to upload your company logo, post your first status update, and some images to your gallery, enter in your business contact details and then once you have setup your account, start to get fans.

To begin searching for Fans, look up people you know and fan their page, and ask them to fan your page back.  You can also add links to your website to get fans, send out an email to your customers and ask then to be fans and more.

Be sure to regularly post to your wall and keep in touch with your fans.  I will write another blog post about Using your Facebook Page next week which will detail what you should be doing on your Facebook page and with your Facebook page.
