All of our clients have been setup with monthly analytics reporting. You will now receive an email on the 1st day of each month with an attached PDF that will detail your website statistics. The reason why website analytics is very important is because it tells you who visited your website, where they came from, how long they stayed, how they found you and more. I am going to detail below how to read your analytics report and what your report will tell you that can help your business get more online sales leads.
I am going to start at the top of the report and work my way down. If you want to open up your most recent analytics report it may help you when reading this article.
The graph at the top shows your visits each day. The goal is to have a steady traffic flow where your visits stay steady each day and do not fluctuate up and down dramatically.
Sessions: The number of visits to your website for the month shown.
Pageviews: The number of pages these visitors viewed during the month shown.
Pages/Sessions: The average visit in terms of page views.
Bounce Rate: The number of visitors who visited only 1 page on your website before leaving.
Avg. Time on Site: The amount of time on average your visitors spend on your website during the month shown.
% of New Sessions: The percentage of visitors who are new to your website and not repeat visitors.
The Sessions Overview shows how many visitors came to your website during the month shown.
The Map Overlay above shows what countries your visitors came from during the month shown.
Site Usage shows the top countries visiting your website during the month shown.
The above chart shows your top traffic sources.
Search Engines: Organic ranking within search engines. (such as: Google, Bing and Yahoo)
Referring Sites: Traffic referred to your website through another website. ( such as: a link to your website from another website)
Direct Traffic: Visitors who typed your domain name into their address bar.
Top Content shows what pages on your website are the most popular and how many people visited each one during the month shown.
The Technical Profile shows how people viewed your website. Did they use a phone or a specific browser, also what speed of internet access they were using.
Top Traffic Sources: The top websites that sent traffic to your website.
Top Keywords: The top keywords people used when searching for your website.
Each month when you receive your Google Analytics report via email, the best thing you can do is review it. Learning how your website works and how your visitors interact with your website is a big part of how to get more traffic and leads.
