Below you will find tips for managing your website. Our goal is to get our clients more business, and by doing this your website needs to be fresh, updated and informative. If you have any questions about any of the tips below, do not hesitate to contact us anytime.
Tip 1 – Use your Blog
If your website has a blog, use it. Blogging is a great way to connect with your current customers as well as new and potential customers. The best way to get started with blogging is to set a schedule of when you have time to blog. This may be 1 x per week, or it may be 1x per month. Be sure to set aside a block of time where you can focus on writing about your business and not be distracted.
Your blog post should be at least 200 words and should contain 1-2 keywords. If you are unsure of what to blog about, here are some ideas: town events, business events, business news, local weather, post photos of projects, recent projects, tips, tricks, your thoughts and more. If an idea comes to you, write it down and use it when you write your next post.
Blogging can help your organic search engine ranking and it will also keep your clients informed as to what is going on with you. Also, it tells the Internet that you are still alive and kicking.
Tip 2 – Photos
Many of you have photo gallery’s or online portfolios and these should be updated as often as possible. When visitors come to your website they want to see new work and changes, this way they can get a feel for what you do and maybe even use your services. Take photos of your projects, before and after and during. It is good to use a quality digital camera as cell phone photos are not the best quality. Send us your photos as you take them and we can get them on your website in no time.
Tip 3 – Update
Be sure to update your website with new phone numbers, address’s and email address’s as needed. If you have moved or have new business information, be sure to add it to your website. Your visitors can’t call you if your phone number is out of date.
Tip 4 – Write Often
It is a good idea to keep your potential customer informed and up to date. It is also a good idea to keep your website copy up to date so that Google knows that your business is still alive. One of the best ways to achieve both of the above is to update the copy on your website as much as possible. It is a good idea to update some of the copy on your homepage 1x per month. Sub pages can be edited every other month.
Although it may seem like a hassle to do this, it can really benefit your business and your online presence. You want visitors to know that you care about your website and that you take the time to update your website as needed.
Set a time 1 time per month where you can sit and review your website. Go page by page and see what can be updated. New photos, copy and documents are always good. If you have a content management system or Contribute you can do the edits yourself. Otherwise, we can do the edits for you. Either way, this is a real good way to keep your website fresh and new all the time.
Tip 5 – Social Marketing
If you have not already, you should join Facebook, Linked in and Twitter. Social marketing is a big part of all online businesses these days and if you are not on board, you may be missing out on some great marketing opportunities.
Facebook is great for any business that has followers.
Linked in is a great place for business professionals such as: accountants, attorneys, bankers, designers, entrepreneurs, executives and more. If you are involved in your business or another business and you want to connect with other professionals, Linked in is a great place to join. When you join Linked in, you add your resume and information about you and your company that everyone else can view and recommend.
Twitter is a good service for businesses who know a lot of other businesses online and like to send out business updates in short spurts regularly and also like to read about what other businesses are doing. This service is getting to be very bogged down and may not be a right fit for everyone, but if you are having success with it, keep it up.
Tip 6 – Stay in Touch
One of the best ways to stay in touch with your visitor, clients and potential clients is via a enewsletter. There are several online service providers to choose from, the one that we recommend is Constant Contact. Constant Contact is FREE for the first 60 days and then it can cost as little as $15 per month. Most small businesses fall into the $15 per month category and the money spent is well worth it as long as you send enewsletters on a regular basis.
If you are unsure of what to write about in a enewsletter, here are some ideas: company news, events, local information, new employees, projects, weather, clients and special deals.
If you decide to send out enewsletters, be sure to schedule a time 1x per month or 1x every few months when you can put together your enewsletter and send it out. Studies have shown that people will remember you if you send your enewsletters out on a regular basis.
