We are pleased to showcase Kim’s newest business venture, MarchandCFO with all of you. We have been working with Kim for over 10 years and we are always impressed by her determination, cheery demeanor, kindness, and her love of helping people succeed. Learn all about Kim and her business below.

How did your business get started?
I started MarchandCFO in 2009 when I accepted my first assignment as an interim CFO. After an extensive career as an in-house CFO and COO for nonprofits, start-ups and small businesses, I changed course, buying and operating a 21 room inn on Cape Cod with my husband. Because our business was seasonal, I was able to continue and build my practice as an interim and part-time CFO. I rebranded and relaunched my business as MarchandCFO in 2021.

Tell us about yourself.
I am very lucky because I love what I do and where I live. The community and surroundings of Cape Cod are special. It’s small-town warmth in the shadow of majestic beauty. I’ve been managing businesses all of my life, starting with helping my grandmother in the kitchen office of the family business. I learned a lot early on and I carry on her entrepreneurial spirit. I’m also committed to the Cape Cod community and I’m especially passionate about helping women in business succeed. I’m currently Co-Chair of the Cape Cod Women’s Business Summit, a Certified Business Mentor and Coach for SCORE, and I served as President of the Board of the Dennis Chamber of Commerce for several years. I volunteer for WE CAN as a facilitator and coach and I’m an active member of the Cape Cod Women’s Association. I earned my MBA from Simmons University and a BA in Women’s Studies from UMass Amherst.

When I’m not out and about in the business community or trying to change the world, I enjoy the natural beauty of Cape Cod. You can find me in my red Jeep at the beach for early morning walks or checking on my favorite osprey pair. I live near Cape Cod Bay with my husband and 2 Bengal cats.

Where do you find inspiration?
I am always inspired by my clients. Whether it’s a small business owner working hard to succeed or a nonprofit that is changing the world, I know I can make a difference for them. It’s the reason I come to come to work every day. Personally, I find creativity and inspiration on my beach and trail walks whether with friends or alone.

What do you love about your business?
Besides making a real difference for my clients and helping them succeed, I love that I get the chance to meet so many smart people and learn about new business ideas. I also enjoy building an organization that reflects my values and goals and gives me the chance to execute my vision.

What are some ways that you promote your business?
For my business, word of mouth and letting people know about my services are especially important. I network whenever I can but I try to be strategic about where to spend my time. I also attend events and conferences and have a presence whether as an exhibitor or a sponsor.

Do you have any advice for other business owners?
My business is to advise business owners, so you asked the right person! Here are a few nuggets: Don’t let fear or lack of knowledge stop you from understanding your finances. A smart business owner will know when to hire an expert so they can manage their business effectively. Don’t let the business manage you!
