Google Reviews *Updated*

Jan 24, 2018 | Resources

We have previously covered Google Reviews and Google My Business. However, I felt those articles needed an update, as a new simplified approach is available to solicit Google reviews from your customers!

Asking customers for reviews should be a staple of every checkout & purchase experience.  So many buying decisions are influenced by these “social” factors that your business cannot ignore these digital opportunities to gain an advantage.

Along with Facebook, Google Reviews is another powerful force in online reviews.  “Google” (as in the verb) any business and you’ll see a Google Business profile to the right of, or on top of the regular search results.  This profile also contains reviews, left by customers using their Google/Gmail account.

Fortunately, there’s a quick way to send customers directly to the review pop-up – which will reduce the chances they get lost on the way.

Google has a Help topic on this exact technique, I’ll also describe the process here.

  1.  Use Google’s handy PlaceID Lookup Tool.
  2. Enter your business name, and locate your business on the map.
  3. Click on your map listing, and in the window that appears will be your PLACE ID.
  4. Copy this ID and add to the end (where it reads <place_id>) following link:
    https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=<place_id>

For example, COLEwebdev’s link is:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJUQhKHBxm-4kR6LOlJTG3MrY

When clicked, the user is taken to a Google search results page, with the “Rate & review” window already open.  If the user is logged into Google, the process is seamless.

Add that link to an email newsletter, social media post, or link a QR code to the link for use in your store!
